The most important roads

Vassileos Konstantinou (Megalos Dromos)

The busiest street in the city starting from the old railway. Moving towards the center of the Old Town we meet two neoclassical buildings, the Courthouse and the City Hall of Nafplio. The square in front is called Three Admirals where the tomb of Dimitrios Ypsilantis is located. Reaching the end of the road we end up in Syntagma Square.

Plapouta Street

On this street we find the mansion of Regent Armensberg (Venetian period) and the Metropolitan Church of St. George with the magnificent frescoes of the 18th century.

Papanikolaou Street

We meet the Land Gate which was the only entrance to the city and was surrounded by a sea moat. At the location of the hotel Zeus was the house of Dimitrios Ypsilantis and opposite Mantos Mavrogenous. Then we find the church of Saint Spyridon where the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, took place.

Queen Amalia Avenue

The largest street in the town on which the sea wall of the city was built during the Venetian era. We meet the First Primary School and the War Museum. Opposite the museum, on the vertical street, we find the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation.

Arvanitia Tour

The walk on the coastal road starts from the old Customs House and Filellinon square, where the monument for the French Philhellenes who fought for the liberation of Greece from the Ottomans is located. We continue to the Five Brothers bastion which took its name from the 5 cannons that controlled access to the port. From this point begins the so-called Tour of Arvanitia, which is a route around Akronafplia that leads to the beach of Arvanitia.

Psaromahalas

The most picturesque and old neighbourhood of Nafplio is Psaromachalas which took its name from the fishermen who lived there during the Turkish occupation. In this neighbourhood we find remarkable buildings such as the building of the First Court of Auditors and the Executive (the first seat of government).
